Issue

Challenges faced by rural communities in India- 1. Low income from agriculture 2. Migration to bigger cities for employment 3. Lack of formal education and skills to access gainful employment 4. Vicious cycle of poverty 5. Poor village economy These are the issues we try to resolve through customised initiatives according to the geography and specific needs of the communities in which we work.

Action

We have 5 verticals aimed at supporting sustainable livelihoods for rural communities, of these, Entrepreneurship Building, Skill Development, and Women Empowerment have been our major focus since our inception in 1995 through which we have built resilient and self-reliant rural communities. We also conduct EduSkilling for rural students which involves training them on soft skills, career guidance, and financial literacy, and finally, our Industry 4.0 technical skilling initiatives focus on professional skill courses for degree and diploma students to increase their employability.

Impact

Through all our initiatives we aim to advance the Sustainable Development Goals of no poverty, gender equality, and decent work and economic growth. We believe socio-economic independence is the foundation for the transformation and empowerment of rural communities. Our programmes address the specific challenges faced by rural communities with a lack of access to opportunity and resources. Through tie-ups with leading industries, we ensure that our beneficiaries have the most in-demand market-oriented skills ensuring gainful employment or self-employment by taking on individual contractual work. Our entrepreneurship programmes have built a cadre of first-generation entrepreneurs with the business acumen and mindset to set up successful MSMEs. We have impacted over 70,000 youth, women, and adolescents through our collective initiatives pan India.

Programs

  • Skill Development

We are currently working in over 50 districts pan India of which our concentrated presence is in Maharashtra. Our skilling initiatives are industry-oriented and market-aligned. We provide end-to-end training from community mobilisation, enrolment and training to placement and post-training support along with regular monitoring and evaluation of the same.

We provide the skilling courses in the emerging sectors of solar and EV domains as well as in manufacturing, construction, garment industry and food processing amongst others.

  • Entrepreneurship Developement

Our entrepreneurship development programmes have been successful in supporting aspiring entrepreneurs to start their micro-enterprises with a turnover range of a monthly INR 50,000 to even 2 crores. We provide Women Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Financial Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Tribal Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, and Faculty Entrepreneurship Development Programmes customised according to the target beneficiary requirements.

The programmes are led by industry leaders and mentors providing industry insights and sharing their learnings as successful entrepreneurs. The trainings involve mindset and skill set building along with leadership training, business plan preparation, market survey, linkages with banks and financial schemes, and real-time industry exposure.

  • EduSkilling

    District

This initiative with rural, tribal students from grades 9 to 11 have the confidence and exposure to face the world post their schooling. Most students are shy and lacking in communication skills and the basic self-belief to be able to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams. Our programme supports these students with identity-building, communication, self-management, career guidance, goal-setting, and soft skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills so they can overcome their inhibitions and take on the world.

This programme is running in 4 blocks of Nashik district, namely Igatpuri, Trimbak, Peth and Surgana with nearly 1500 young students.

  • Women Empowerment

Our women empowerment initiatives range from skilling to entrepreneurship development programmes focused on building their confidence and paving the way for them to work towards their financial independence. We have trained over 15000 women so far in trades ranging from food and spice processing, textile, and fem hygiene, to construction trades, and financial entrepreneurship.

We have also set up 2 women-only industrial zones in Maharashtra and support women entrepreneurs with network linkages through our annual exhibitions.

  • Industry 4.0

Through this programme we aim to bridge the gap between college students and industries by addressing skill gaps that form barriers to employment opportunities.

Students lack practical knowledge due to outdated machines and equipment in colleges and the lack of current industry insights in out-of-date syllabi. This impacts their quality of production once they enter the industry as professionals. With a focus on theory, students also do not learn project management, planning, reporting, and time management skills. They also require basic knowledge of safety measures, ISO practices, key performance indicators and key result areas which as students they have no prior knowledge of.

Through our trainings, we ensure students are technically skilled and job-ready with professional etiquette and communication skills to help them retain jobs and advance in their careers.
