Programs

  • Agents of Change Programme

Indian Youth Climate Network's Agents of Change (AoC) programme aims to empower young people to take action on climate change at the international level. The programme does this by sending a delegation of Indian youth to the UN climate negotiations, where they will engage with Government delegations, civil society groups, and other youth activists. AoC also works to raise awareness about climate change and build consensus on climate action among young people in India.

The programme has been successful in sending delegations to the UN climate negotiations in Paris, Katowice, and Glasgow. The delegations have played an important role in raising the voices of young people and advocating for ambitious climate action. AoC has also been successful in raising awareness about climate change among young people in India. The programme has conducted workshops and trainings on climate change, and it has produced educational materials on the issue.

  • Rural Energy Project

Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) is working to create a clean technology project in rural India that will reduce greenhouse gases and work towards reducing the heating of the planet.

As a pilot project, IYCN trained five young women from the rural community to hold village meetings for six months in 30 villages to share information on climate change and encourage them to take ownership of their own welfare and avail Government schemes in the context of adverse impacts of climate change.

IYCN's first rural energy project was implemented in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu in a village called MGR Nagar on the outskirts of Coimbatore. In collaboration with an entity present in the area, solar lanterns were distributed to the villages at highly subsidized prices. This has helped the villagers in increased income, studies, and safety. IYCN is also considering other options, such as solar microgrids, for future projects.

  • Climate Solutions Road Tour Programme

The Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) organised a Climate Solutions Road Tour in 2009. The tour travelled to more than 15 cities in India, covering a distance of 3500 kilometres. The tour was an initiative to share solutions to climate change and empower youth to take action.

The tour included a solar-powered band, “Solar Punch,” which performed at various events along the way. The tour also featured clean technology showcases and leadership training programmes.

  • Climate Leadership Programme

The Indian Youth Climate Network's Climate Leadership Programme aims to produce a group of young people who will take leadership roles in the fight against climate change. The programme provides training on climate science, solutions, and advocacy, and it also helps young people develop their skills in organizing and mobilizing others.

The programme includes a full-day interactive session on climate change, which covers basic climate science, solutions, and on-campus climate action. It also includes media training to help young people communicate the urgency of climate change.
