Smile Express in an initiative of The Oral Health Promotion Foundation. It provides dental care to people residing in remote villages of the country a Read morend works to pursue the aim of “oral health for all”. The organisation achieves this through a fully equipped mobile dental van which provides on-the-spot diagnostic, preventive, proactive and healing dental care services at the doorsteps of the underprivileged, rural population. The mobile van is equipped with all required dental care equipment and caters to checkups and consultations, x-rays, information about oral hygiene practices and many other interventions to correct teeth problems. It also sets up dental camps where it provides semi-electrically operated dental chair which is the most important equipment for dental procedures. This chair helps to position the patient and helps the doctor carry out the dental procedure with ease and to the satisfaction of the patient. Its services are helpful to the rural populace who don’t have the means or capacity to get treated at costly urban dental clinics. In the process of bringing dental care to the doorsteps of villagers it is also spreading the information on good dental hygiene and encouraging people to quit smoking thereby preventing occurrence of oral cancer.

Programs

  • Mobile Dental Van

The goal of the mobile dental van is to offer preventative, promotional, and curative healthcare in rural areas—which are typically underserved or isolated—under normal circumstances. The program's main objectives are to improve community awareness, boost accessibility to and use of dental care at the local level, collect oral health data to better understand the trends in dental disease, and develop community-based initiatives for improved dental health outcomes.

  • Portable Dental Chair

The method of providing dental care in rural areas is mobile and portable dentistry. This hybrid system combines elements of a mobile van model with portable equipment carried inside, with the functionality of a fixed-site dental clinic. Mobile and portable dental units are an effective and efficient way to bring sophisticated dental services to the doorsteps of the rural masses, school premises, and urban slum areas. Portable dental services are generally less expensive, more accessible, and less susceptible to mechanical difficulties. These factors can increase the awareness of the practising dental community. It includes a dental chair that runs on a semi-electric motor, a mount unit, a single airotor point, a single micromotor point, a three-way syringe, low- and high-pressure pneumatic suction and a pneumatic stool.
